HEJ KHALID DAWARI - WHAT ARE YOU DOING IN LILJEHOLMEN?
This is a raft and building workshops we do with kids. It’s a way to boost youth social interaction with local society since we create temporary places for summer hang-out. The kids are building rafts and objects to furnish them with. I support them!
The workshop includes planning, sketching and construction. It gives the kids opportunities for personal development and enhance self-confidence, which is the main purpose. They learn about craft and to use tools. For example on the photo to the right you see me helping Henry, 11 years, screwing in one of the structures. They also practice group work, and learn about environmental issues and the architect profession.
HOW DO YOU USE YOUR EXPERIENCES FROM AFGHANISTAN IN THIS PROJECT?
I worked 12 years as an architect in Afghanistan in various social projects. Some projects were with kids, so I am used to work with people in this age. I don’t see much difference from working with kids here or in Afghanistan. They are about the same age and your approach as an instructor needs to be the same.
DO YOU HAVE ANY DREAM PROJECTS THAT YOU WOULD LIKE TO REALIzE IN SWEDEN?
Yes! I would like to do an exhibition on social architecture. I would also like to use the water to do projects in Stockholm, with some help from architecture it could become interesting spots to gather for families.
It doesn’t really matter in which part of the world I am for these projects. I want to serve human beings with architecture, to create nice living environments and let different experiences, approaches and cultures merge and interact through my projects.
